Hip, Hip, Hoo-RAVE-O!

On October 11th and 12th, the MLLC hosted an open training for the RAVE-O intervention program. The training was well attended by reading specialists, literacy coaches, special education teachers, and speech/language pathologists from Carver, Nauset, Norwell and Mansfield.

The 2-day training was led by Elaine Seavey and was well-recieved by all. Teachers learned more about the intensive research behind RAVE-O and some proven instructional strategies. Ms. Seavey led the trainees through the program step-by-step and answered some critical questions reagarding implementation and assigning students.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Eleni Steadman of the HILL for Literacy will facilitate session 2 of the Literacy Assessment Course on Thursday, October 20th from 8:00 - 12:00. Member districts are invited to send one team member to observe the course.

The next meeting of the South Shore Coaches/RTI Coordinators group will be on October 28th. Our "hot-topic" for discussion this month will be Students' Response to Data and Interventions - a great follow-up to the RAVE-O presentation

In the afternoon, the MLLC will host superintendents and district literacy leaders from Avon, Abington, East Bridgewater, Rockland, and Carver. Using a case study model, the Carver Team will facilitate analysis of grade 3 data from 2005 to present. The group will review data from several sources: MCAS, DIBELS, GRADE, and the Benchmark Writing Prompt to highlight student achievement, areas of strength and need, as well as correlations for predicting future student success. The HILL for Literacy will contribute in person and online.
